According to a prominent German gaming site, PCGames.de, an industry insider with contacts from Bethesda Softworks had revealed that a 20- to 30- minute gameplay video of Fallout 4 will be shown at E3 2015 next month, and that the game will not be released before 2016.
And the sound you just heard is the collective sigh of all Fallout fans around the world.
Rumours abound when it comes to Fallout 4. With Bethesda’s first showcase at E3 this year, there was much hearsay that about a Fallout 4 announcement, with regular industry leaker @Shinobi602 powering the hype train with his tweets. However, I beseech you, my fellow Fallout Stans, to take this news with a pinch of salt, for it is still an unsubstantiated one at the moment. Plus, the very same @Shinobi602, who is said to be the anonymous source for the German site, had this to say on NeoGAF:
“Why is my name there lol.“
I would also like to bring your attention to what Pete Hines, Vice President of Bethesda Softworks, had said regarding the horribly cruel Fallout 4 prank, Survivor2299.com, two years ago:
So yes, unless it comes from an official source, let’s not get our hopes too high, shall we? And wasn’t there a similar rumour during E3 2013?@SpiritOfSketch then you should ignore everything unless it comes from an official source/channel. As we've said, previously.— Pete Hines (@DCDeacon) May 13, 2014
